Foods And Drinks That You Shouldn’t Give To Your Dog This Holiday Season
Not all human foods are suitable or safe for your dog. Giving your dog improper foods may cause upset stomach, digestive problems, or worse. A limited amount of human food can be fine, but your dog’s diet should be mostly from pet food. This holiday season, residential dog training Manchester experts recommend keeping a close eye on your dog anytime he is around human food as dogs are easily tempted by the sights and smells.
With that being said, here are some foods and drinks to avoid giving your dog this holiday season:
Anything with Xylitol- Xylitol is a common sweetener for nut butters, drinks, and sugarless gum. Regular consumption may cause liver failure and low blood sugar. Read the nutrition facts label and check whether there’s xylitol in it.
Onions And Garlic- it won’t be a problem if your dog accidentally eat a small slice of onion. However, fried onion rings or French onion soup could severely affect your dog. Substances in onions and garlic may cause the rupture of red blood cells, causing anaemia.
Raisins- your dog could be curious with raisins and he might even try to eat them. Holiday cookies and other treats may have raisins and you should avoid giving them to your dog. An excessive intake of raisins can cause kidney failure.
Macadamia Nuts- be careful when giving your dogs a bunch of random nuts. Macadamia nuts may cause paralysis or limb weakness to your dog. Although it is reversible within 24 hours, avoid macadamia nuts for the well-being of your pet.
Chocolate- there’s so much chocolate in the holiday season. Some dogs really love chocolate, but if you give them just a little, they won’t know when to stop. Eating too much chocolate may cause possible seizures and heart issues. Don’t give your dog a piece of brownie because he will demand an entire pan.
This holiday season, residential dog training experts recommend that you avoid feeding your dog human food altogether as this will help to stave off begging and keep him healthier.
